Overview

Student Growth to Mastery Workshops: Parts I and II

Student Growth to Mastery Workshops are built to provide educational leaders the tools to clearly communicate a concise, data-driven plan that will inspire and motivate stakeholders to join the mission. With a unified, high-impact focus, participants will have the tools to assist those they support in appropriate goal-setting, data-monitoring, and professional development to deliberately address student growth to mastery.

Workshops will be held regionally and require prior registration through your school district. For workshop dates and registration, please visit our event calendar.

Part I: STUdent growth to mastery

web connections

This collaborative course provides information and processes to deepen educators' understanding of Louisiana School Accountability Data and its connection to everyday classroom practice. Participants investigate the components of DPS and SPS, their calculations, and their connections to curriculum with a concentration on Assessment Index and Progress Index.  This understanding allows leaders to assist those they support in setting and monitoring data-appropriate goals and creates a clear picture of where districts, schools, and teachers are, so they can begin deliberately addressing student growth.
(This is recommended as a prerequisite to Part II Workshops.)

Part II: Student Growth to Mastery
(Systems and Structures)

book

Following a quick review of Part I, educational leaders will address ELA and Math data using LDOE resources for student growth. Upon completion, participants will be able to provide a framework to effectively plan PLCs throughout the year to deliberately address student growth at all achievement levels in ELA and Math.   Student goal-setting and ways to monitor success will be clear and evident.  Leaders will be able to monitor and support professional development focused on the right work of ELA and Math throughout the year.
*Expertise in ELA and Math is not necessary to successfully complete this course, and the system can be applied to any grade level.
(Part I: Student Growth to Mastery is highly recommended as a prerequisite to Part II.)

Part II: Math

Part II: ELA and Math are very similar workshops that differ by their subject-specific focus. Following a quick review of Part I, we will concentrate on analyzing Math data and how it reflects the work of the classroom.  Educational leaders will then learn how to address Math data using LDOE resources for student growth. Upon completion, participants will be able to provide a framework to effectively plan PLCs throughout the year to deliberately address student growth at all achievement levels in Math.   Goal-setting and ways to monitor success will be clear and evident.  Leaders will be able to monitor and support professional development focused on the right work of Math throughout the year.
*Expertise in Math is not necessary to successfully complete this course, and the system can be applied to any grade level.
(Part I: Student Growth to Mastery is highly recommended as a prerequisite to Part II.)

Part III: Goal Setting

After establishing the foundational understanding of Parts I and II, participants will use Assessment Index and Progress Index data to create challenging and attainable goals that are nested and specific to the school, department, grade, and teacher levels. These goals will be the basis for evaluating success, quantifying lost learning, and determining support needs at all levels. Educators will understand the process for creating data-driven expectations, assessing performance, and determining next steps. (Parts I and II are recommended prerequisites to this workshop.)
